Unit 207 Board Meeting
August 14, 2002
Minutes

The following board members were present: Kathy McCabe, Chris Hull, Mary Ann Laier, Jennifer Stocker, Clint Schuhmacher, Mark McAllister, Jim Wueste, and Gene Cavanaugh. Also attending were Nancy Gordy, Kevin Perkins, and Larry Davis.

Following discussions were recorded by Gene Cavanaugh:

1. Minutes of 07/10/02 meeting - no questions
2. Treasurer's Report - Clint Schuhmacher showed a balance on 07/31/02 of $36,933, up sharply from previous balances, because of profits from the regional tournament in early July.
3. Final Budget, 2002 Regional - Larry Davis showed a profit of between $5000 and $6200, depending on settlement with the hotel on meal charges.
4. Membership Report - Mark McAllister reported that directories had been printed and were now available at the playing sites. Database was ACBL's current roster for our unit.
5. Revised Schedule of Events - Gene Cavanaugh distributed update sheets There were two corrections: The Oct. 31 Halloween Party is at 12:00 pm, not 7:30 pm, and Kevin Perkins will direct. Also the Oct. 19 open pairs event will be played as "IMP Pairs", at Kevin's suggestion. The May 1-4, 2003, sectional has been sanctioned and will be held at the Clarion Inn. This will be added to the next update.
6. Money for GNT from Unit 207 - It was agreed that $100 be given to each of the four members on the 'B' team, and to one unit player who played on an 'A' team located outside of Unit 207.
7. New Committee Chairs - Mary Ann Laier, Food Committee, and Mark McAllister, Membership, were acknowledged by Chris Hull. Mark will obtain E-mail listings from Steve Bruce, and from other sources within the unit. Objective is to develop a quick and easy means of communicating with as many unit members as possible on such matters as tournaments and other unit activities.
8. Flyers - Mary Ann Laier requested that flyers be prepared for all events scheduled for the balance of 2002. Gene Cavanaugh will prepare and distribute the flyers within the unit and also to a number of other units in our district.
9. EZ Bridge - Kevin Perkins announced that ACBL will greatly reduce allowances to units for this activity. ACBL will reimburse up to 50% of publicity costs, but will not assist on the cost of books. Kevin stated that we will not be able to have a Fall session for a variety of reasons. One option for our unit is to sponsor a lesson series. Kevin will gather more information on this approach vs. EZ Bridge, and will present information on sites and cost considerations at the next meeting. Soonest dates will be January or February 2003.
10. Financials on Local Events - Kevin Perkins announced that the unit made $175 on the recent City Championship and lost $29 on the recent Ice Cream Social.
11. Workers Party - Chris Hull thanked Kathy McCabe and her husband Kevin for hosting the very successful party for workers at the Regional tournament.
12. Next Board Meeting - Kathy McCabe has made arrangements with Curra's Grill at 6801 Burnet Road as a meeting place at 3:30 pm on September 11.
