DISTRICT 16, UNIT 207

BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING

APRIL 9, 2008

The meeting was called to order by President Mark McAllister at 2:50 p.m.  Present were Charles Aufill, Larry Davis, Leonard McCormick, Phyllis Tate, Joe Black, Mark Miller, and Mark McAllister.  Absent were Robert Donathan and Harriette Bowles.

Representing the Bridge Center of Austin, Beth Tobias made a presentation regarding the possibility of a new and considerably larger location for the Bridge Center.  The new space would accommodate 50 tables with approximately 4100 square feet of playing space.  The Board of the Bridge Center of Austin is asking Unit 207 to commit to use of the new facility for some sectional tournaments and all unit events.  The Unit 207 Board is going to meet again on Saturday, April 19 at 10 a.m. to discuss the proposal further.  Beth Tobias has been asked to draft a document that would delineate the legal commitments being requested of Unit 207.

Mary Ann Laier made a request for the Unit to hold a Teacher Accreditation Program (TAP) at the July Regional Tournament.  The cost to the Unit would be $1700.  In a previous Unit Board meeting, the principle of underwriting expenses for Unit 207 members to take the TAP course had been approved.  A motion was made by Larry Davis to have the TAP course.  This motion died for lack of a second.  Charles Aufill moved that the board agree to plan for a TAP course and a Director Certification course for the 2010 Regional Tournament, allowing ample time to publicize and market.  This motion was approved.

The minutes from the previous meeting were approved as circulated.

Mark McAllister presented the Treasurer’s report on behalf of Robert Donathan.  It was approved.

Mark Miller reported that the materials related to the job of the Membership Chair are being collected and reviewed.

Joe Black circulated the list of upcoming unit events.  A discussion ensued regarding the assignments for snacks and meals as previously agreed upon.

Mark McAllister announced that Laney Hennelly has agreed to serve as Recorder for the unit.

A proposal was made by Larry Davis for Unit 207 to sponsor a 0-100 MP Sectional Tournament.  This proposal was approved.

Mark Miller encouraged each board member to give serious consideration to ways in which he/she can make positive contributions to the state of bridge in Unit 207.  All agreed that this is a relevant objective.

The meeting adjourned at 4:15 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Leonard McCormick
