Ray Robak Award: Awarded annually to the Unit 207 member winning the most masterpoints at the September Sectional, this year's winner is Jack Lacy.

Grand National Teams (GNT)

The unit-level GNT qualifier for flights B and C will be held on Saturday, Feb 16th.

It is a two-session event.  The upper half of each flight qualifies to go the district-level (usually held in Richardson (Dallas) over the Memorial Day weekend). The national-level is at the Summer Nationals. Must play both sessions.

 

Christmas/Holiday Parties

Various Christmas parties are being held in December.  The Unit 207 party is December 9th (Sunday) at the Senior Activity Center.  There is NO age restriction.  There will be two single-session, charity, stratified pairs games with a catered meal between sessions.  The cost is $12 if playing both sessions, $8 if playing only one session.  Reservations are required.  Reserve with Mary Anne Laier (261-3723).

     The Senior Activity Center party is Tuesday, December 18th.  Must be 50+ years of age. Dinner at 6:00 and bridge at 7:00 (charity, stratified pairs).  The cost is $6 if you bring a dish, $10 without a dish.  Reservations are not required, but please sign up at the SAC indicating the kind of dish you will bring. The event is "formal" (coat/tie encouraged).

     The Bridge Center party/unit championship game is Friday, December 14th at 7:00 (dinner at 6:00).  Reservations are required (first 20 tables).  Sign up at the Bridge Center or call Rosemary Kelley (837-6586). The Center will provide a main course and drinks. Bring a side dish/dessert if you wish.

     The Bridge Center New Year's Eve party/unit championship is Monday, December 31st at 7:30 (dinner at 6:30).  The Center will provide a main course and drinks. Bring a side dish/dessert if you wish.

 

Nominees for Unit Board of Directors

The nominating committee submits the following names for election to the Unit 207 Board of Directors: Harriette Bowles, Larry Davis, Robert Donathan, Sandra Harris, Laney Hennelly, Wiley McMinn, Virgil Massey, and Mark Miller.  Nominations may be made from the floor at the Annual Meeting held on February 2nd.

 

Tentative Unit Events 2008

Jan 26th - Open Pairs, Feb 2nd  - Annual Unit Meeting/Open Pairs, Feb 16th - GNT Unit Finals, Flights B and C (two-session), Apr 12th - Lone Arranger (pairs), Apr 19th - Open Pairs (afternoon) and Teams (evening), May 31st - Summer Social/Open Pairs,

June 14th - City Championship (two-session), June 21st  - IMP Pairs, Aug 16th - Summer Social/Open Pairs, Oct 11th - NAP Unit Finals, Oct 31st - Halloween Party/Open Pairs, Dec 6th - Individual Open Pairs, Dec 14th - Christmas Party/Open Pairs (two single-sessions).  Events are one session unless otherwise noted.  All pair games are stratified except for the Lone Arranger.  All games are at the Bridge Center except for the Christmas Party (probably at the Senior Center).  All games are on Saturday except for the Christmas Party (Sunday) and the Halloween Party (Friday).  The start times of Unit Events vary.  Check the fliers, which are posted/available at the various clubs, usually a month or more in advance of the event date.  Single-session events often (but not always) start at 1:30 and double-session events often start at 12:30.

 

Board Not Played

Occasionally at club games, the director will cause a result of "Not Played" to be entered on the traveler or pickup slip.  This can occur because the table is way behind time-wise, and the board will not or might not be played late.  Also, the director may have called someone in to play in order to fill out a half-table, but that person will not arrive until after the first round is over.  The boards not played that first round (because of the "lateness") will be recorded as "Not Played".  Players experiencing a "Not Played" result do not suffer any penalty whatsoever on their final score.  It is just as if they had a sit-out. Their percent game is calculated based on, and only on, the boards which they actually played.   They do not receive a "zero" or an "average".
